Ford Mustang Facelift Summary

The Ford Mustang is the company’s halo car in India and was one of the most value-for-money sportscars available in the market. Multiple factors have affected the launch of the Mustang facelift in India; like the restructuring of the company after announcing a tie-up with Mahindra and subsequent change in strategy along with the COVID-19 pandemic being the most significant. The demand for expensive cars, especially sportscars, currently does not exist and so Ford will take its time in announcing the launch of the new Mustang.

A slew of small changes to the exterior design make the Mustang look almost completely new as compared to the older model. The sleeker, angular headlight unit, aggressive new grille, redesigned bumper and a bulkier hood with new air-vents give a much more angrier look at the front. The side and rear design is broadly similar to the older model. Changes on the inside include a refreshed dashboard design and new digital interface designs including the option of an all-digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, the five-litre V8 gets more power as well as better fuel efficiency thanks to the addition of port and direct fuel-injection. The archaic six-speed torque-converter has been replaced by a much better 10-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Optional extras like a ‘MagneRide’ adaptive dampers and active valve exhaust add to the handling and sporty nature of the muscle car.

Ford India will wait till demand increases before it officially brings back its halo sportscar to the country.
